Samuel Ellis Jenkins, age 96, of Olney passed away on Wednesday, March 4, 2020 at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Unit.
Samuel was born on September 11, 1923 in Dundas, the son of Asa and Stella (Lewis) Jenkins. He married Mary Lou Christy on February 12, 1947. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2015.
He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II. He and Mary Lou were active in church their entire married life. In their younger years, they served as youth group leaders and were involved in many revival meetings through music ministry. Samuel spent the first part of his career as a farmer. He was employed as a custodian with the East Richland School District for 20 years prior to his retirement at age 65. He was a wonderful husband, father and friend.
Samuel is survived by his 8 children, Robert (Jane) Jenkins and Donald (Susan) Jenkins of Wichita, KS, Margaret Kathleen Upton of Ft. Worth, TX, Pamela (Roberto) Maximo of Acworth, GA, Janice (Stanley) Gill of Bedford, TX, Shirley Jenkins of Olney, Paul (Jan) Jenkins of Litchfield and Stephen (Krista) Jenkins of Wichita, KS. In addition to his children, he is survived by 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Floyd Siebert, several nieces and nephews and honorary family Paul and Phyllis Ulrich.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, 2 brothers Louis and Blanchard Jenkins, 4 sisters Myra Jenkins, Corinne Neeley, Alma Royse and Iona Siebert and infant half-brother Eugene Jenkins.
Funeral service will be at 2 pm on Saturday, March 7, 2020 in the chapel of Thrasher Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time. Burial will be in the Dundas Cemetery in Dundas. Pastor Lance Jenkins will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Richland County Senior Citizen’s Center in memory of Samuel Ellis Jenkins.
