Donald ‘Don’ Raymond Kapper, 81, of Olney, passed away at 6:45 PM on Tuesday, September 14, 2021 at Helia Healthcare in Olney.
Graveside service for friends and family will be at 11 AM on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Olney. Cremation rites will be accorded. Father Mark Stec will be officiating and assisted by the Richland County Veteran's Organization.
Don was born on April 18, 1940 in Geneva, IL the son of Gilbert and Marie (Nix) Kapper.
He was in the United States Army and was stationed in Korea. He was a brick and blocklayer for the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 8. Some of the jobs he worked on included Scott Airforce Base, Lawrence Correctional Facility, A.D.M. in Decatur, several refineries including Marathon in Robinson, several homes, fireplaces and mailboxes in and around Richland County. Don always took pride in his work and lived a productive life and retired at the age of 75. He was a lifetime member of International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Local 8 for over 55 years as well as Olney American Legion, VFW, Elks and K of C. He was proud to have served on the VFW Honor Guard Funeral detail for many years. He was active with Babe Ruth and American Legion Baseball in Olney. He was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Olney. Don was able to instill in all of his sons the value of hard work and good work ethics. The family would like to thank Helia Healthcare and Dr. Schmucker and Dr. Garrett for the great care they provided their father over the last few years.
Don is survived by his 5 sons Gary Kapper of Robinson, Cary Kapper (Christena) of Springfield, MO, Mark Kapper (Sandi Hahn) of Olney, Mike Kapper (Angie Tomlin) of Olney and Brad Kapper of Olney; brother Richard Kapper (Lou Ann) of Gainesville, FL; 3 sisters Kay Keller (Marvin) of Sullivan, IL, Sharon Paddock (Ron) of Villages, FL, Mary Crites (Stan) of Olney; brother-in-law Neil Adams of Evansville; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren with 1 more on the way.
He is preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Marie Kapper, brother Frank Kapper and sister Pat Adams.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the VFW Honor Guard or Shriner’s Children’s Hospital in memory of Donald ‘Don’ Raymond Kapper.
