Carol Kay Shouse, 78, of Olney entered the gates of heaven to meet her Savior at 9:20 pm on June 15th, 2021.
Kay was born December 25, 1942 in Effingham County, the daughter of Curtis and Marie Harris. She married Otis Douglas “OD” Shouse on August 13th, 1961 and celebrated 59 years of marriage last August.
After graduating from Dieterich High School she attended beauty school and worked as a beautician for several years before becoming an in-home child care provider. Kay and OD loved to travel and spent as many winters as possible in Florida. Her favorite vacation activity was searching for shells on the beach. Kay also enjoyed cross-stitching and making decorative hand-made greeting cards.
The greatest joy of Kay’s life was being a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She excelled as a caregiver, prayer warrior, and encourager to her family. She was a member of Bible Fellowship Church. She loved the Lord and her church family.
Kay is survived by her husband of 59 years OD; Son, Scott Shouse and wife Brandy of Claremont; Daughter, Shari Thomas and husband Tom of Robinson; granddaughters Tara Titsworth and husband Johnathan of Vincennes, IN; Kaylee Shouse of Champaign, IL; Katie Shipman and husband Josh of Vincennes, IN; Natalie Shouse of Bolivar, MO; grandsons Luke and Joshua Thomas of Robinson, IL; great grandchildren Alistair and Melody Titsworth of Vincennes, IN; brothers, Kent Harris and wife Mardell of Macomb, IL and Kit “Butch” Harris and wife Georgette of Baton Rouge, LA; sister in laws Doris Lewis and Velda Cunningham of Effingham, IL; brother in laws, Alvin Shouse and wife Elaine of Effingham, Richard Shouse and wife Brenda of Lebanon, IN; and George Shouse and wife Marcella of Effingham; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws Lloyd and Olive Shouse, one daughter Susan Renee Shouse, brother in laws Paul Shouse, Theron Shouse, Eugene Lewis and Don Cunningham. Sister in laws Jean, Clarice and Dorothy Shouse.
Funeral service for Kay will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 19th, 2021 at Bible Fellowship Church in Olney. Visitation will be from 9-11 AM on Saturday, June 19th, 2021. Burial will be at Dieterich Cemetery in Dieterich. Pastor Mark Martin will be officiating and is assisted by Johnathan Titsworth.
